NOTES ON COLORInstallation
The installation evolved after a debate on the topic of color in digital media. Four 8-bit color palettes served as the basic material; each of these grids contains 256 different colors. These palettes (Windows, NTSC, Rainbow, grayscale) are provided by the computer’s operating system, and they were not altered. Four monitors and four illuminated boxes are arranged at eye level; they face one another in two rows. The monitors show computer animations, and the images consist solely of the color palette depicted opposite. Each palette overlaps itself several times and moves in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal direction. All possible color mixing procedures are employed systematically, resulting in a vast number of kaleidoscopic animations.
