DIALOGUE WITH THE YOUTH (VIENNA CAGES)

Pfaffenbichler/Schreiber compile a topology and typology of outdoor enclosures where adolescents can play sports, also known as “cages,” in Vienna. These objects are situated in locations that are useless for other purposes, their size and shape adapted to their surroundings. The photographs show the cages empty of users to accentuate their architectural idiosyncrasies. The polemic title is taken from that of a painting by Martin Kippenberger which shows the face of a young man who has obviously been in a fight.
